Severe traffic congestion has been reported in the Town Hall area in Colombo due to a protest rally by university non-academic staff, Ada Derana reporter said.

The Inter University Trade Union Joint Committee (IUTUJC) has also resorted to a token strike from Tuesday morning.

The demonstration is being held in front of the University Grants Commission, Ada Derana reporter added.

The strike is believed to be caused due to the lack of initiative taken by the commission to issue a circular to increase the staff’s monthly allowance. Further steps to be taken over the issue will be discussed during a combined union meeting on 12 February, a spokesperson said.
