15 Peradeniya uni students arrested for ragging their juniors

The police have nabbed fifteen university students in the wee hours of this morning (20) after they caught ragging a group of junior students inside a house in Galaha, Peradeniya.


The undergraduates, all second year students of the University of Peradeniya, were apprehended during a search operation carried out at around 1.00 am, an official said.


The police launched the search after university’s proctor received a tip-off that eight junior students of the Agriculture Department were being subjected to ragging inside the house, Ada Derana reporter said.


The junior students have been admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching hospital for treatments. 


The suspected students were remanded until March 2 after being produced before Kandy Additional Magistrate  Rangani Gamage, Ada Derana reporter said.
