Rathupaswala shooting: Three army personnel arrested

Three army personnel have been apprehended in connection with the shooting in Rathupaswala which claimed the lives of three persons in 2013.


The suspects were apprehended by a team attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday afternoon.


The shooting sparked an outcry across the country due to the deaths including two youths.


President Maithripala Sirisena had also given his approval to provide 4.68 million rupees as compensation for 33 victims of Rathupaswala incident earlier. During the last few months, the President paid special attention on providing the justice to those who got injured in the incident in Rathupaswala. A committee headed by Secretary of Gampaha District was also appointed to provide recommendations.


UPDATE: The three army personnel have been remanded until 3 April after being produced before the Gampaha Magistrate.
