Suspected cop killer dies after shootout with police

An exchange of fire took place in Hambantota, killing a suspect and injuring 2 Police officers.

Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General of Police Priyantha Jayakody stated that the deceased was the main suspect in the murder of a Police officer in Maspotha, Kurunegala which took place in 2016.

The Central Anti-Vice Unit of Walana and Police Special Task Force had conducted an operation in Hambantota to arrest the suspect.

Reports state that the Police had received a tip revealing the suspect’s hide-out in a wooded area. The Police had then gone to said location in order to arrest the suspect, where the exchange of fire took place.

The Police Spokesman stated that whilst the suspect was killed during the exchange, two Police officers were also injured in the process.
