GMOA prepares for island-wide strike with 160 trade unions

A decision has been made to conduct an island-wide one-day strike protesting SAITM, Malabe, Government Medical Officers’ Organization (GMOA) states.

The GMOA announced that the strike would be conducted sometime between 03 and 05 of May.

The decision for the strike was taken at the GMOA Central Council’s meeting held yesterday (27) to discuss the SAITM issue.

The GMOA stated that several trade unions had already signed up for the strike, and added that if the Government failed to provide a satisfactory solution by the 09 of May, a continuous strike would be conducted.

An estimate of 160 trade unions, including the Government Dental Surgeon’s Association, National Trade Union Centre and Sri Lanka Postal Workers’ Union are said to have confirmed participation in the strike.
