The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Sunday questioned the UNP and the SLFP on reasons not to choose ‘large grounds’, if they intended to hold the biggest May Day rallies in the history.

PHU leader Udaya Gammanpila while speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Colombo said, “We have one question. Why did they pick smaller grounds if intended to organize the biggest May Day rallies.”

Gammanpila pointed out according to Google Maps Area Calculator Tool, the Galle Face Green is approximately 18 acres, while Campbell Park, Borella and the ground in Gatambe, Kandy are approximately 3.7 and 2.4 acres respectively.

The MP too condemned the move to deploy army personnel to disperse protesters during demonstrations. He accused the Government of attempting to damage the good reputation of military personnel and break the bond between soldiers and civilians through this move.
