An agreement has been signed, handing over the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital to the government under the patronage of the President, Maithripala Sirisena today (17).

Addressing the journalists at a media briefing held yesterday (16), Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne, stated that the hospital had all necessary facilities a teaching hospital should contain, including the latest pieces of medical technology.

Senaratne added that the hospital will provide a quality health service free of charge, which will be monitored by a group of board members.

He further stated that the decision made will help resolve the issue regarding the lack of patients being treated by the hospital.

The hospital will officially open as a teaching hospital on the 1 of August 2017.
