Veteran musician Somapala Rathnayake passes away

Veteran musician and music producer Somapala Rathnayake, the elder brother of the famous singer Victor Rathnayake, passed away today (18) at the age of 69.

Somapala Rathnayake, who was born in Kadugannawa, Kandy, was the fourth in a family of eleven children. 

His first notable work in the field of music was his contribution to the soundtrack of the Sinhala film, ‘Hanthane Kathawa’ (Story of Hanthana). Following this, he then proceeded to serve as the music producer in a variety of documentary films throughout his life.
