MOH announces max retail prices for stents used in heart surgeries

The Ministry Of Health has issued a gazette announcing the maximum retail prices for stents used in heart surgeries.

Accordingly the maximum retail price for Bare Metal Stents will be Rs.24,000 and Drug Eluting Stents will be Rs.105,000

Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne made the amendments to the current pricing schedule in accordance with the National Medicines Regulatory Act 2015. It was further stated that the current amendments may be referred to as the Medical Devices Pricing Regulations No. 05, 2017. 

Accordingly, no manufacturer, importer, distributor, trader, provider, pharmacist, medical practitioner, a medical institution inclusive of a private medical institution or a person who is in possession of a medical device shall sell, offer for sale or charge for any medical device described by brand name or approved name, above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP)

It was has been further stated that any entity currently in possession of any medical device in discussion, no alteration to its current price can be made at a point of sale. Further a receipt clearly stating the device, its brand name and make with a price is to be issued. 

The gazette has further stated that any and all medical devices within description are to have their MRP clearly demarcated on their commercial packaging prior to the expiry of a period of 45 days from the date of publication of these regulations
