President calls for expediting Polonnaruwa Museum

A discussion was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to review the progress of the construction works of the Polonnaruwa Museum and Information Centre at the Polonnaruwa New Town at the Presidential Secretariat on Monday (14).

The construction work iss carried out under the District Development Project of Pibidemu Polonnaruwa (Polonnaruwa Awakening) by the President’s Program for Rajarata Nawodaya (New Dawn to Rajarata). 

The expected expenditure for this project is Rs.6 million.

This Museum and Information Centre will be built to provide historical importance of Polonnaruwa to the future generation as well as for the benefit of the school children, the President’s Media Division said.

The President, who inquired about the progress of the construction work, directed the relevant sections to expedite it.

Secretary to the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs D. Swarnapala and the Director of the Department of National Musiums Sanuja Kasthuriarachchi were among those who participated in this discussion =.
