08 year prison sentence for former principal on bribery charge

The Colombo High Court sentenced a former principal of a prominent school in Panadura to 08 years in prison for accepting a bribe of Rs.25000 to admit a student to the primary section of the school she was serving. 

Ada Derana reporters confirm that the verdict was passed today (29) following the hearing of the case. 

The court case was filed against the former principal by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption after a complaint was lodged against the former principal. The High court found the defendant guilty of accepting a bribe of Rs.25000 for the admission of a child to the first grade.
