Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Mr.D.M. Swaminathan has instructed the Commissioner of Prisons to only allow inmates to be admitted to the Prison Hospital under the recommendation of three doctors from the hospital.
Previously inmates requiring medical attention were admitted to the Prison Hospital based on the recommendation of one doctor. However, the minister has ordered that the recommendations of three doctors be sought for admissions, effective immediately.
Furthermore the relevant medical reports should be submitted to the Ministry of Prison Reforms which will carry out necessary further consideration.
Minister Swaminathan stated that the decision was taken after considering the complaints and requests from various sections with regard to alleged irregularities when admitting inmates to the Prison Hospital.
