Rs 100 per day for school children?

The Education Ministry denied media reports that Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has proposed a daily allowance of Rs.100 for school children.

When Contacted by Ada Derana,a responsible official of Education Ministry who did not want to reveal his identity confirmed that the Minster has not made such a statement.

Meanwhile, Education State Minister V. Radhakrishnan also confirmed that the Ministry had not taken such a decision.

The attempts to contact Education Minister regarding the statement were a failure as he was on an official tour to Finland.

The BBC Tamil Service had reported that Education Ministry has decided to provide a monthly allowance to school children who are under poverty.

This program will be implemented from next year, and the government is currently considering to provide a student Rs. 100 per day, as the first stage of this program, BBC Sinhala Service added.
