President meets families of disappeared in Kilinochchi

President Maithripala Sirisena met with the families of disappeared persons of Kilinochchi District in front of Kandasami Kovil yesterday (14).

The President, who was in Kilinochchi to open the newly built Economic Centre, met with the families of the missing persons,after the ceremony, and assured that he will issue relevant directives to address the demands of the families.

They handed over a letter to the President regarding their missing children and demanded the President to address to their issue.

The President also requested the families of disappeared persons to come to Colombo for a discussion regarding their issue.

Families of the disappeared in Kilinochchi were holding a continuous hunger strike for 237 days in front of Kandasami Kovil, seeking to find the whereabouts of their family members disappeared during and after the war ended in 2009.
