A special program to release the debts of Northern farmers

President Maithripala Sirisena said that he will negotiate with state and private banks to launch a concessionary program in order to release the debt of farmers in the North.

The President pointed out that the food production in the country has dropped by 50% during the past one and half years.

The President said that the government had spent a large sum of money to solve the issues faced by farmers.

 He made these views while participating in the opening ceremony of Kilinochchi Economic Center.

Speaking further, the President said that the aim of the government is to build a backdrop where there will be no war in the country.

The Kilinochchi outlet of Milco Private Limited was also declared open by the President.
