Former Minister of Parliament Mervyn Silva responded to the statements made by Prof. Carlo Fonseka, who compared Ranjan Ramanayake and Vijaya Kumaratunga as equals stating that his sentiments cannot be accepted in any sense.

Prof.Carlo Fonseka provided a special statement to Ada Derana correspondents following the trail of Ranjan Ramanayake yesterday (25). Speaking to the media Prof. Fonseka stated that Vijaya and Ranjan are both considered as his nephews and that he believes they are courageous, brave and cultured individuals.

During a reality show, Mervyn Silva rebuffed a statement made by Ranjan Ramanayake who compared himself to Vijaya Kumaratunga stating that they were both humanitarians. In response Mervyn Silva refuted Ranjan Ramanayake’s claim stating that he was in no way akin to Vijaya Kumaratunga.

Mervyn Silva based his statements on his alleged close association with Vijaya Kumaratunga.

Following yesterday’s events, Mervyn Silva responded to Prof. Carlo Fonseka via a special correspondence with Ada Derana.

He stated that Vijaya Kumaratunga is an esteemed individual who has a revered lineage that can be traced to the great king Dutugemunu, King Vijaya and King Vijayabahu.

“Even though Prof.Fonseka is a relation of Viajay Kumaratunga, he cannot akin anyone to his personality. Prof. Fonseka is an extremely respected individual in Sri Lanka however, he cannot compare someone who has defamed the judiciary and clergy in Sri Lanka to someone like Vijaya Kumaratunga.

The Police, judiciary and maha sangha should not be disrespected. We must work together with them and not defame and slander their services.” Mervyn Silva said.
