Issuing a statement earlier today (31), Dr.Neville Fernando responded to the stance taken by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) on the ruling of the government to abolish the shareholding and management structure of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine.

In his statement, Dr.Fernando stated that he is indeed pleased that the GMOA was satisfied by the decision of the government on the SAITM issue.

He further stated that it is the dream of any medical student to complete their undergraduate education to move onto a postgraduate qualification and ultimately become a specialist doctor within the country. Dr.Fernando pleaded with the government to take steps to resume the undergraduate and practical training of all medical students at government medical faculties.

Dr.Neville Fernando also stated that he is pleased that the right to receive an education within Sri Lanka was protected and that all rumours surrounding the incident were dispelled.
