Gazette constituting number of members to local bodies likely to be issued today

The gazette notification constituting the number of members to all local bodies is likely be issued today, (08) announces the Government Printing Department.

The gazette was signed by Minister of Provincial councils and Local Government Faiszer Mustapha on November 01. 

Accordingly it was handed over to the Government Printing Department on November 02 for printing purposes.

The Government Printing Department had thereafter handed over the notification to Provincial councils and Local Government Ministry for proofreading.

The gazette notification is due to be handed over to the Government Printing Department today and it will be uploaded to the internet by midnight today, the department said.

The Election Commission will announce the date of election after the issuance of the gazette notification.

Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya recently said that the elections could be held on January next year.

Meanwhile a special meeting of the Election Commission with regard to Local government election is being held by now, it is reported.
