15% wage increase for public sector employees from January

Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena announced a 15% wage increase for public sector employees from January next year.

While speaking at the parliament yesterday (14) the Minister said the wages of an Office Assistant to Attorney General will increase accordingly.

The basic salary of an Office Assistant will increase from Rs. 14,000 to Rs. 23,000 and the salary of the Attorney General will increase up to Rs. 110,000.

Meanwhile, the basic salary of a Medical Specialist will hike up to Rs. 69,756 from Rs. 60, 000, the Minister said.

An additional Rs 12 billion would be required annually, for the salary hike and to settle pension the Minister said.
