Navy apprehends 10 Indian fishermen

A Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command, on routine patrol, has apprehended 10 Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters north of Point Pedro Lighthouse last night.

The apprehended fishermen, trawler and fishing gear were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai and handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for onward legal action, SLN said.

Indian media reports say that the fishermen are from from Akkarapettai in Nagaptattinam district in Tamil Nadu.
