The bodies of two siblings who were reported missing in Maskeliya since Sunday (November 26), were recovered by the Sri Lankan Navy  a short while ago.

The deceased were identified as Subramanium Mahendran(28) and Parameshwari Mahalechchami (18) residents of one of the line houses of Gatmore Tea Estate.

The siblings had returned home from their workplace in Ganemulla on Saturday, (November 25) to participate in a family celebration.

Subramanium Mahendran had reportedly left home last Sunday (26) with his sister in a jeep belonging to their workplace owner, to lodge a complaint about his missing mobile at the Maskeliya Police, according to relatives.

The relatives of the siblings lodged a complaint at Maskeliya Police yesterday (27) as they had failed to return home.

Accordingly, Maskeliya Police launched investigations into the incident.

The jeep which they had travelled in was found abandoned near Gartmore School, Maskeliya.

A  police dog found a pair of slippers and a handkerchief nearby Baagra Oya this morning (28).

The police suspect the siblings to have committed suicide.

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by Maskeliya Police.
