Three spill gates of upper Kotmale dam opened

Three spill gates of the upper Kotmale dam were opened earlier today (20) due to rising water levels caused by incessant rain to the central region of the country.

Engineers have warned all residents downstream of the Kotmale oya reservoir to be vigilant of flash floods that may be caused by the remaining spill gates automatically opening.

It was also reported that a dense fog covered several regions of the central hills making travel extremely difficult.
