Azath Salley will be the Colombo Mayoral candidate of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) at the upcoming election, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva confirmed today (22).

He said that Salley is not an ‘imported’ candidate as alleged by certain individuals.

The upcoming Local Government polls will be an election where racism is eradicated and reconciliation is established, the Minister added.

The Minister made this statement while addressing an SLFP media briefing held in Colombo today (6).

He also said that the lack of cooperation between two organizers of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is responsible over the rejection of SLFP nominations for two Local Government institutions.

The nominations submitted by SLFP for Dehiattakandiya and Padiyatalawa Pradeshiya Sabhas were rejected on December 14.

While speaking at media briefing the Minister said that he requests the Election Commissioner to implement election law firmly.

“The government has no intention of misusing state power at the upcoming Local Government elections, and we do not have any need to do so,” he added.
