Main suspect of Attanagalla shooting incident identified

The main suspect involved in the Attanagalla shooting incident has been identified, the police said.

He has been identified as Chamara Indrajith Jayasundara alias “Udammita Samare” who was released on bail with regard to a previous murder reportedly taken place in Veyangoda.

One person was killed and four including a pregnant woman sustained injuries during a shooting incident reported near Attanagalla temple last night (21) according to Police Media Office.

 An unidentified gunman opened fire on the crowd during a musical show held following an Avurudu Uthsawaya in Attanagalla, Nittambuwa police reported.

The victim was identified as a 37-year-old businessman residing in Heiyanthuduwa, Devamiththa area.

He has taken part in lighting the oil lamp at the opening ceremony of the musical show, reports claim.

The injured were admitted to Wathupitiwala Hospital.

One person was later transferred to Colombo National Hospital for further treatments.

A business dispute has resulted in the murder, initial investigations into the incident revealed.

In addition to Nittambuwa Police, a Special Police team headed by Western province Crimes Division ASP has also been deployed to apprehend the suspect, Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwna Gunasekara said.
