Hearing of Gnanasara Thero’s appeal postponed to 22nd June

Homagama Magistrate Court postpones the hearing of the appeal by Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero till 2pm of the 22nd June.
This order was issued, today (19),as a result of the absence of an official from the Attorney General’s Department, when the case was summoned at the Magistrate’s Court.
Gnanasara Thero was found guilty in the case filed against him for threatening Sandya Eknaligoda, the wife of missing journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, within the Homagama court premises.
Accordingly, on 14th June, he was sentenced for 6 months each for both charges to be served at once.
The thero was also asked to pay a fine of Rs 3000 with regards to the 2 cases and a compensation fee of Rs 50,000 to Sandya Ekneligoda.
The appeal of bail for the thero applied by the Bodu Bala Sena was called on today.
Gnanasara Thero had verbally abused and threatened Sandya Eknaligoda at the Homagama Court on January 25, 2016 while Homagama Police filed a case against the Thero charging him with criminal harassment and criminal intimidation under the penal code.
