Vehicle used in Matara incident taken into police custody

The vehicle used in the Matara jewelry shop robbery and its owner has been taken into the police custody, early this morning (02).

The arrest has been made at Meditation Center Road, Moragahahena-Thalagala, by the Kalutara District Crime Unit Officers.

The white Alto car holding the license plate no. CAE 4706, allegedly used at the robbery, had been investigated by the police and has been discovered to be registered under a woman.

Following investigations, it has been revealed that the suspects had lived at that address for about 4 months.

The suspects of the incident Kosgoda Tharaka, his cousin who still evades arrest, Kosgoda Dilshan and Chamara who died during the shootout had been in living in this house, according to the Police.

The police had staked out near the house since last night (01) and had made the arrest when she returned to home with her husband.

The arrested person is a 43 year old named Madapathage Kapila Kumara.

This same vehicle has been used to hospitalize the suspects following the shootout, revealed the police.
