Follow-up activities commenced on oil-spilled coastal line

Follow-up activities have been commenced from Dikkowita to Uswetakeiyawa coastal line following the efforts of removal of oil spilled from a pipeline carrying oil Muthurajawela Oil Refinery Complex, says Sri Lanka Navy.

According to the Navy, three small groups of military personnel have been deployed for the follow-up activities.

A leakage in pipeline carrying oil to Muthurajawela Oil Refinery Complex had occurred on September 09 and the officers of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation immediately launched measures to curb the leakage.

However, the spilled oil had been leaked into the sea and spread to Dikkowita and Uswetakeiyawa coastal line.

Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard removed the removed the spilled oil in a joint effort.
