A protest urging the abolition of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) was held this morning (21) in Jaffna.

The protest had been organized by a group including the Northern Provincial Council member M.K. Sivajilingam of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

National unity and permanent peace cannot be established in the country, Sivajilingam said, speaking to reporters during the protest.

He added that they urge the President and the Prime Minister to revoke the Prevention of Terrorism Act and to release political prisoners arrested under the act without delay.
