All five spill gates of the Kotmale reservoir have opened as heavy rain continues to pound on the western slopes of the Central Province, according to Ada Derana reporter.

The spill gates have automatically opened releasing water at the rate of 200 cubic feet per second.

The engineers of the power station have requested the residents living in the vicinity of the Kotmale Oya beneath the dam to be vigilant of the situation.
