SE university students take over admin building

Students of the Faculty of Technology of the Southeastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) have completely taken over the administration building of the university and are currently engaged in a protest action.

Recently, the studentship of four undergraduates was suspended while 21 students were imposed a suspension of classes. Accordingly, the parents of these students met with the vice chancellor on October 13, to discuss the matter.

The parents then commenced a Satyagraha inside the administration building while the authorities locked down the building.

The parents had been inside the top floor of the building for nearly a day-and-a-half.

Subsequently, the students took over the ground floor of the building and currently both parents and the students are jointly engaged in this protest.

Chairman of the Student Activist Committee of SEUSL Gihan Weerasekara stated that the vice chancellor is exacting revenge from the students to suppress them.

The students also claim that the vice-chancellor has failed to give the students the right to sit for examinations for a period of over one-and-a-half years.

The University Grants Commission is also not interested in resolving the issue, but the protest would not end until the authorities provide the necessary solutions for the issue, the students warned.

However, the attempts by Ada Derana to contact the Vice Chancellor of SEUSL M.M.M. Najim for his response in this regard had failed.
