Two Americans and Afghan among 5 arrested with 90kg heroin

Five suspects including three foreigners have been arrested with 90 kilograms of heroin at a luxury apartment building in the Kollupitiya area.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said the arrested suspects include two American nationals, one Afghan national and two Sri Lankans, residents of Hikkaduwa.

The arrests were made following a joint operation carried out by the Police Special task Force (STF) and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).

The suspects were arrested along with the drugs inside an apartment in the first floor of the building while the heroin was found packed into 90 parcels, weighing one kilogram each.

The seized heroin haul is estimated to be worth around Rs 1,080 million.

The arrested Americans nationals are aged 29 and 43 while the Afghan national is 41 years of age.

The two local men arrested in the raid are aged 41 and 39 while they are both residents of Hikkaduwa, police said.
