May 9, 2019   07:06 pm

State Minister of National Policies & Economic Affairs Niroshan Perera stated that he is requesting the President to further strengthen the security measures considering the prevailing situation in the country.

He stated this at a press conference held in Colombo on the current security situation of the country.

The state minister stated that he requests the president to utilize the assistance of the retired Army personnel considering that the country is facing a threat of terrorism.

He points out that the service of army personnel who are trained to face emergency situations during a war can be important.

Perera says that if the equipment is needed to ensure the security of the public, they must be bought under a special cabinet paper considering the emergency situation in the country.

The state minister further stated that steps must be taken to permanently ban the extremist groups who carried out the attacks. Although these groups have been banned under the Emergency law, they must be legally destroyed even if new laws must be created to do so.
