Thundershowers expected in Sabaragamuwa, Western provinces

Several spells of showers may occur in the Uva, Southern and Central provinces and in Batticaloa and Ampara districts, says the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces after 2.00 pm.

Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.


Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur the sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Colombo via Batticaloa, Hambanthota and Galle.

Winds will be North-easterly and speed will be (30-40) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota and the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Colombo.

The sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota and the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Colombo can be fairly rough at times.
