Showers or thundershowers expected in several provinces & districts

The showery condition in the South-western part of the island is expected to continue further today, says the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm can be expected at some places.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at few places in Uva province after 02.00 pm.

Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times over the island.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity and localized strong winds during thundershowers.


Sea areas:

Naval and fishing communities operating in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota are requested to be vigilant since the wind speeds in these sea areas can increase up to (60-65) kmph at times.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be South-westerly and wind speed will be (40-50) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai and Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota can increase up to (60-65) kmph at times. Wind speed in the other sea areas can increase up to (55-60) kmph at times.

The deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai and Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota will be rough or very rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
