Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 cases surge to 1,789 with 40 new detections

Forty new cases of Covid-19 have been identified so far today bringing the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country to 1,789. 

This includes 36 navy personnel currently under quarantine at the Kandakadu and Oluvil centres.

The remaining four patients include 03 returnees from India who are at the Katukeliyawa quarantine centre and a returnee from Bangladesh who is at Diyatalawa quarantine centre.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health, a total of 939 patients who tested positive for the virus are currently under medical care.

Meanwhile the number of recoveries in Sri Lanka has risen to 839 thus far.

Around 56 patients suspected of contracting the virus are currently under supervision at hospitals. 

The death toll due to Covid-19 in Sri Lanka is 11.
