General Election 2020: Dates set for postal voting

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has decided on the dates pertaining to the postal voting of General Election 2020.

Accordingly, the dates for authorizing the list of postal voters, issuance, and distribution of postal ballot papers, and the postal voting for relevant institutes have been decided.

The list of postal voters will be authorized on June 18 while the issuance of postal ballot papers and handing over to the Post will be carried out on June 30, July 01 and 02.

Postal voting for state institutions – excluding District Secretariats, Electoral offices, police, security forces, Civil Security Department, and health sectors – will be carried out on July 14 and 15.

Postal voting for District Secretariats, Electoral offices, police, security forces, Civil Security Department, and health sectors will be carried on July 16 and 17.

Any postal voters, who were not able to cast their vote on the aforementioned date, may cast their vote on July 20 and 21 at the District Election Offices of the district of their workplace.

Further, the polling cards of General Election 2020 will be submitted to the post on July 11, 12, and 13, and the distribution of polling cards will conclude on July 29.

Any registered voter who had not received their polling card by July 29 may obtain their polling card by verifying their identity at the postal office pertaining to their address registered in the 2019 electoral register.

The Election Commissions issued a statement declaring the aforementioned dates of the General Election 2020, signed by Chairman of the Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.
