Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been ordered to enforce the arrest warrants against former Central bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and Ajahn Gardiya Punchihewa.

The order was issued by Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake when the complaint against former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and 10 other suspects for alleged misappropriation of over Rs 52 billion in government bonds at two auctions by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in 2016 was taken up for hearing today (17).

Karunanayake and several other suspects filed petitions before the Court of Appeal demanding the revocation of the warrant issued by the Magistrate. Accordingly, it was decided not to implement the warrants imposed on them.

However, the Magistrate has ordered the CID to enforce the warrants issued against Arjun Mahendran and Ajahand Gardiya Punchihewa, as they had no filed a case against the order of warrants.
