The Election Commission says that over 47,000 postal vote applications submitted for the upcoming parliamentary election have been rejected.

A spokesman for the commission said that a total of 47,952 postal vote applications were rejected due to not being filled out properly.

753,037 public servants had applied for postal voting for this year’s general election.

Postal voting of the 2020 general election is scheduled to be held on July 14, 15, 16 and 17 while those who were not able to cast their vote on the aforementioned dates, will be permitted to cast their vote on July 20 and 21.

Meanwhile the printing of ballot papers has reached the final phase, according to the Department of Government Printing.

It said that the printing of ballot papers for 20 districts has already been completed and that by the end of this week all 17 million ballot papers would be printed.

The Election Commission is currently staging mock polls under the health guidelines issued for the election at several districts.

It is also expected to organize a series of mock ballot counting programmes with regard to this.
