19 chief jailors of prisons transferred

Nineteen chief jailors of prisons in Sri Lanka have been transferred with immediate effect on exigencies of service, the Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya told Ada Derana.

He said that the transferred prisons officials include the Chief Jailor of the Negombo Prison, who has been removed from the position of chief jailor and transferred to Dumbara Prison.

The Negombo Prisons was in the spotlight recently after a drug racket operating from the prisons was uncovered.

The Commissioner General of Prisons further said that 06 new chief jailors have also been appointed to prions in the country.

Meanwhile he said that a prison guard at the Boossa Prison who had been caught while attempting to smuggle 7 grams of heroin, for an inmate of the prison, has been interdicted and is being investigated.
