The meeting of the United National Party (UNP) Working Committee held today (25) has ended without a decision on party leadership and the National List nomination.

The decision on new leadership and the National List nomination will accordingly be taken at Working Committee meeting scheduled to take place on first week of September.

The Working Committee meeting, chaired by party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, was held at the Sirikotha premises.

Reports revealed that the statement issued by former Speaker of the Parliament Karu Jayasuriya, asserting his confidence that he is capable of taking up the challenge to lead the UNP, has drawn the focus of the Working Committee members during today’s meeting.
