Repatriations to Sri Lanka to be limited

October 10, 2020   12:44 pm

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken measures to restrict the repatriation of Sri Lankan expatriates.

Following the re-emergence of Covid-19 cases in the country, the authorities have been directing large numbers of close contacts of the virus-infected persons to quarantining.

Meanwhile, those arrive in the country from foreign countries are mandated to undergo a 14-day quarantine period.

Hence, taking into account the limited capacities at quarantine centres prompted by the prevailing situation, the Foreign Ministry has decided to restrict the repatriation process for the time being.

It is reported that nearly 57,000 more Sri Lankan expatriates are expecting to be repatriated to the island.
