Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 death toll rises to 21

An individual under medical care at the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases in Welisara has died of Covid-19 on Saturday (31), the Ministry of Health announced a short while ago.

The deceased was identified as a 40-year-old male from Mahara area.

The Epidemiology Unit has confirmed that the patient was admitted to the hospital on the 23rd of October due to high blood pressure and respiratory tract infection.

The results of the first PCR test performed on the patient has come out negative, however, the second PCR carried out during the post-mortem examination has confirmed that he was positive for Covid-19.

According to Health Ministry’s data, total Covid-19 deaths reported in Sri Lanka now stand at 21.
