A 32-year-old woman fed food laced with poison to her three daughters before trying to commit suicide by consuming it herself following a family dispute with her husband.

The incident had reportedly taken place at around 8.00 a.m. this morning (06) at the Ananthapuri area in Nilaveli, Trincomalee.

The 32-year-old mother of four had fed the food laced with poison to her three daughters before consuming it herself.

The 16-year-old eldest daughter has died while the woman and her two other daughters, aged 11 and 08, are currently being treated at the Trincomalee Hospital.

Ada Derana reporter said that only the woman’s 2-year-old son had not been fed the poison laced food.

She had reportedly attempted the murder-suicide due to a dispute last night with her husband, who is a priest at a Hindu temple in Kilinochchi.
