The Minuwangoda cluster in the second wave of COVID-19 has now been brought under complete control, says the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

A total of 3,106 infections were identified from the coronavirus case cluster which originated from Minuwangoda.

However, only 136 of them are currently under medical treatment while the rest have been discharged upon recovery, the Army Chief said.

“When the Minuwangoda cluster was identified, over a thousand persons had been infected even by the first day. That means nearly 2,000 had been infected. We were able to stop the spread at 3,106 cases.”

Lieutenant General Silva expressed these views joining the TV Derana Breakfast show ‘Derana Aruna’ this morning (16).

Meanwhile, the Army Chief said that home quarantine was initiated considering issues of transporting patients of the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster to quarantine centers.
