Sri Lanka confirms 11 more COVID fatalities

Sri Lanka has witnessed 11 more COVID-19 related deaths, Director-General of Health Services confirmed today (May 05).

Thereby, the country’s death toll from the coronavirus outbreak now stands at 720.

01. A 33-year-old man from Kongahawela area: He was diagnosed with novel coronavirus while receiving treatment at the Matale District Hospital. He was then transferred to the Theldeniya Base Hospital where he died on May 03. The cause of death was recorded as acute COVID pneumonia and acute kidney injury.

02. An 84-year-old man from Diyatalawa area: He was transferred from Diyatalawa Base Hospital to Badulla General Hospital after testing positive for the virus. He succumbed to COVID pneumonia, bronchitis and lung fibrosis on May 03.

03. A 94-year-old woman from Malabe: She died on May 03 while receiving treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH). She fell victim to COVID pneumonia, heart attack and hypertension.

04. A 62-year-old man from Maharagama area: He passed away on May 03 at the Colombo National Hospital due to COVID pneumonia, chronic liver disease, diabetes and asthma.

05. A 68-year-old man from Aranayake area: He was transferred from Aranayake District Hospital to Mawanella Base Hospital after being diagnosed with novel coronavirus. He died on May 03 due to COVID pneumonia.

06. A 74-year-old woman from Walgammulla area: She has passed away on May 04 at her house. COVID pneumonia was cited as the cause of death.

07. A 69-year-old woman from Veyangoda area: She died on May 04 at the Wathupitiwala Base Hospital. The cause of death was identified as COVID infection.

08. A 49-year-old woman from Dalupotha area: She was transferred from Minuwangoda Base Hospital to Mulleriyawa Base Hospital after testing positive for the virus. She died on May 02 due to COVID pneumonia.

09. An 82-year-oldman rom Moratuwa area: After being diagnosed with novel coronavirus, he was moved from Colombo South Teaching Hospital to Mulleriyawa Base Hospital where he died on May 03. Acute COVID pneumonia was recorded as the cause of death.

10. A 64-year-old man from Kurunegala area: He was tested positive for novel coronavirus at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital where he died on May 04. The cause of death was identified as COVID pneumonia, hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury.

11. A 73-year-old woman from Waskaduwa area: She was transferred from a private hospital in Colombo to Homagama Base Hospital after testing positive for the virus. She died on May 03 after suffering from COVID pneumonia.
