Sri Lanka’s daily COVID deaths hit record high as total exceeds 900

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll surpassed the 900-mark today (May 14) as 29 more victims were confirmed by the Director-General of Health Services.

This is reportedly the highest-ever coronavirus deaths Sri Lanka has posted in a single day since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.

According to Epidemiology Unit’s data, new fatalities have moved the total to 921.

As per the media release issued by the Department of Government Information, the victims have succumbed to the virus infection between the period of May 09 – May 14.

The deaths were reported from Awissawella, Nuwara-Eliya, Horana, Trincomalee, Nelumdeniya, Nawuththuduwa, Matugama, Panadura, Ambalangoda, Rathgama, Nagoda, Moratuwa, Wakwella, Katugasthota, Hikkaduwa, Ginthota, Colombo 05, Weligampola, Galenbindunuwewa, Polgasowita, Ja-Ela, Boralesgamuwa, Kandana,, Peradeniya, Point Pedro, Boralanda, Wattala and Kelaniya areas

COVID pneumonia was identified as a cause of death of majority of the victims.
