People who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in PCR test but do not indicate any symptoms will be treated at their homes, says State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle.

According to the state minister, necessary arrangements are currently under way to begin the process by Monday (May 17).

If these asymptomatic coronavirus patients suffer from any complications, they will be hospitalized for further treatment, Dr. Fernandopulle explained.

Speaking on the country’s vaccination drive, she said the government is making making arrangements to procure the jabs in order to inoculate the targeted 13 million population by any means necessary.

Sri Lanka also has a shortage of 600,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, the State Minister pointed out. The government has sought the private sector’s help to find 10 million of this vaccine because AstraZeneca is the most suitable vaccine for people above the age of 60 years, she stated.

Dr. Fernandopulle explained that the virus can be contracted even after vaccinations, however, it minimizes the risk of death.
