Four of same family dead as three-wheeler fatally collides with train

Three members of the same family are reported dead in a fatal collision between a three-wheeler and a train in Galle today (February 01).

The accident happened at around 10.45 a.m. on the level crossing at Rillamba Junction in Boossa.

According to Ada Derana correspondent, the mother, father, son and daughter-in-law had been travelling in the three-wheeler at the time of the accident.

All of them were rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital following the fatal collision, however, three of them have succumbed to injuries.

They were identified as residents of the same area.

It is reported that the three-wheeler in question had attempted to cross the railway line while the level crossing signals were on.


UPDATE: The death toll from the said accident has increased to four as the other person who was hospitalized also succumbed to critical injuries, the police confirmed.
