Enjoining order against Govt. Nursing Officers’ Association extended

February 25, 2022   11:52 pm

The two enjoining orders issued against the Government Nursing Officers’ Association and its chairman Saman Ratnapriya calling for the immediate suspension of their trade union action has been extended.

Accordingly, the enjoining orders are effective until March 11.

Meanwhile, the decision on dissolving the enjoining orders or issuing a permanent interim injunction is set to be announced on Feb. 28.

Putting forward a motion recently before the Colombo District Court, the Government Nursing Officers’ Association and its chairman made a request to dissolve the said enjoining orders.

The attorney representing the association and Ratnapriya pointed out that 16 other trade unions were also engaged in the strike action but the enjoining order was issued only to the Government Nursing Officers’ Association. He stressed that the move is unfair.

However, Additional Solicitor General Vikum de Abrew, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General, said the respondents continued the strike action even after the enjoining order was issued.
