Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed his office staff and the staff of the ministries under his purview, except for essential services, to work from home in order to conserve fuel, the Prime Minister’s Media Unit said.

“At a time when our country is facing an unprecedented challenge, I have instructed the officials of the Prime Minister’s Office and my ministries to carry out their duties from home as a step towards saving fuel,” the PM said.

The Prime Minister said he is grateful to these officers who are performing their duties to the best of their ability, even in the absence of an uninterrupted power supply.

“I emphasize that we as a government are very sensitive to the plight of the people as a result of this crisis and we are taking all possible steps to overcome those limitations.”

He says that despite many difficulties, the people of the country have a recent history of overcoming many challenges, including the thirty years of terrorism and the Covid-19 pandemic, with the patience and support of the people.

“In the name of the motherland, let us join hands in overcoming all divisions to overcome this challenge in the same way,” he was quoted as saying by the PM’s media unit.
